Former Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra, arrived at the Bangkok airport.

The Supreme Court of Thailand has pronounced a verdict for Thaksin Shinawatra.

The former Prime Minister faces the following sentences:

- Three years of imprisonment for abuse of power by demanding Eximbank to approve a 4 billion baht loan for Myanmar.

- Two years of imprisonment for an unlawful order to the State Lottery Office to sell two-digit and three-digit lotteries.

- Five years for abusing power to amend the concession agreement with Shin Corp, allowing the payment of excise tax for mobile communication services instead of concession fees.

As a result of the session, the total term of imprisonment has been reduced to 8 years, as the first two terms of punishment can be served concurrently.

After the verdict was announced, Thaksin was taken to the Bangkok Remand Prison. Before being remanded, the former Prime Minister underwent a medical examination.

Several illnesses detected during the examination, as a result of which Thaksin Shinawatra will be held in a separate medical ward within the prison premises under the round-the-clock supervision of specialists.
