Koh Tao Island, Thailand

Starting from September 1st, a ban on the sale of beer in glass bottles will be implemented on Koh Tao Island.

According to the Director-General of the Department of Pollution Control in Surat Thani Province, the prohibition of selling beer in glass containers is intended to help address the issue of litter on the island.

Vendors on the island will sell only canned beer.

As a pilot project, residents of the island will also be proposed to reduce the use of disposable plastic to minimize the amount of waste that needs recycling or ends up in the sea.

"There are fantastic diving spots on the island, well-known worldwide, so all interested parties should cooperate to free the island from glass bottles and the sea from plastic waste," said the governor of Surat Thani Province.
