Floods in southern Thailand

Heavy rains have triggered sudden floods in several provinces in southern Thailand.

According to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, in the last 3 days, intense rainfall has led to flooding in at least 9,697 households across 13 districts in Narathiwat, Yala, and Pattani provinces.

Satellite data from the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency indicates that floodwaters have affected over 89,000 rai of land in the south. The most affected areas include rice fields covering 15,688 rai and other agricultural lands near rivers, residential areas, and some transportation routes.

The Thai Meteorological Department had previously warned of heavy rains and possible floods today in five provinces, including Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat.

Prime Minister Setthak Thavorn has instructed the Deputy Minister of the Interior to oversee efforts to manage the aftermath of the floods.
